Research topics
Studio degli effetti, a livello centrale e periferico, degli ormoni che regolano le funzioni neuroendocrine, metaboliche e cardiovascolari. Le azioni ormonali sono valutate in colture cellulari primarie ottenute da tessuti animali ed umani (isole pancreatiche, adipociti e loro precursori, cellule endometriosiche, cardiomiociti, cellule endoteliali, cellule muscolari), così come in diverse linee cellulari e in modelli animali. Oltre agli effetti funzionali e metabolici (sopravvivenza e proliferazione cellulare, apoptosi, differenziamento, espressione e secrezione di fattori di crescita ed ormoni, espressione genica, metabolismo), vengono esaminati i meccanismi molecolari coinvolti in tali effetti, nonché le cascate di segnale intracellulare attivate dall'interazione ormone-recettore. Scopo di questi studi è l'identificazione di sostanze in grado di regolare positivamente o inibire le vie di segnale e le risposte cellulari coinvolte in patologie come il diabete e le malattie metaboliche, il cancro, le patologie neurodegenerative e quelle cardiovascolari.
